Harlan County High School is now offering opportunities for non-traditional students to meet their educational needs through a program called HCHS e-school.

HCHS’ e-school provides a flexible schedule and innovative instructional courses.  The goal is to meet the needs of ALL Harlan County High School students in order for them to achieve academic success.

Students enrolled in e-school complete their required courses on-line or through independent study with book and supplemental materials. The students work at their own pace; however, adequate progress must be documented through assignments, quizzes, and final exam.  Courses are based on a 60 hour time schedule with grades above a 70%. The better a student’s work ethic, the quicker students can move through the courses.

The program also provides an opportunity for students to gain additional credits other than the 7 period credits a day. Students that have fallen behind can graduate on time working through this program.

E-school students are Harlan County Black Bear Students and have the same rights and privileges as traditional students.  Facilities, special programs, library, computer lab, etc. are all available to the students.

*Enrollment to e-school must be approved by a HCHS committee consisting of a counselor, HCHS Principal, Director of Pupil Personnel and the Dropout Prevention Coordinator.

*Factors such as attendance, behavior, and specific circumstance all are contributing factors for acceptance to the program.

The Harlan County School System, faculty, and staff are working hard to provide a more positive, supportive environment for our community and our students. Together we can provide our youth with a brighter future: please before considering allowing your child to dropout of school; enroll them in e-school.
